Education
A Strong Educational Foundation for a Brighter Future
At Nightwind Treatment Centre, we believe that education is a cornerstone of healing and growth. Our on-site schools at Kihew and Stony Creek provide Junior High and High School classes tailored to meet the unique needs of our youth, ensuring they receive a high-quality education while receiving the support they need to thrive. Youth at Thunderbird Landing have the ability to start their educational journey through a digital connection as they stabilize.
A Tailored, High-Impact Learning Experience
All educational programs at NWTC follow the Alberta Education curriculum and are designed to provide personalized learning in small class settings with a high staff-to-student ratio. This approach allows us to meet students where they are, addressing both academic and personal development needs.
Small Class Sizes
Individualized instruction ensures every student receives the attention and support they need.
Success Plans
Success in School Plans are developed for each youth, setting clear academic and personal goals.
Flexible Approach
Youth re-engage with learning at their own pace, building confidence, skills, and accomplishment.
A Transformative Partnership
Our on-site education programs are funded through an Education Program in an Institution (EPI) agreement between Nightwind Treatment Centre and Alberta Education, ensuring that students receive a fully accredited education. Through our partnership with Ignite Centre for E-Learning, we've established a hybrid virtual and in-person learning environment that effectively removes historical barriers and creates a safe, welcoming space where students can thrive.
All instruction is provided by Ignite's innovative, expert teaching and leadership team who are dedicated to igniting—and re-igniting—the natural curiosity, passion, and strengths that each student brings to their unique learning journey.

Proven Success and Impact
Our partnership with Ignite Centre for E-Learning has yielded tangible successes that demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach:
- Student Achievements: Students have successfully graduated from high school through our program, demonstrating the power of personalized, supportive education.
- Personalized Learning Success: Students who previously had no high school credits have earned significant credits and successfully transitioned to traditional schools.
- Cultural Integration: Our curriculum incorporates land-based learning and Indigenous approaches, including the Seven Grandfather teachings, ensuring cultural relevance and resonance.
- Continued Support: Post-treatment, students have the option to continue their education through Ignite's online program, providing a consistent and supportive learning pathway as they transition back to their communities.
Supporting a Seamless Transition
To ensure a smooth transition into our educational programs, we request that each student's Student Cumulative Record be forwarded directly from their previous school. This allows us to tailor their educational plan from day one, setting them up for immediate and long-term success.
Education at NWTC isn't just a program—it's a pathway to a brighter future.
