EDUCATION
A Strong Educational Foundation for a Brighter Future
At Nightwind Treatment Centre, we believe that education is a cornerstone of healing and growth. Our on-site schools at Kihew and Stony Creek provide Junior High and High School classes tailored to meet the unique needs of our youth, ensuring they receive a high-quality education while receiving the support they need to thrive. Youth at Thunderbird Landing have the ability to start their educational journey through a digital connection as they stabilize.
A Tailored, High-Impact Learning Experience
All educational programs at NWTC follow the Alberta Education curriculum and are designed to provide personalized learning in small class settings with a high staff-to-student ratio. This approach allows us to meet students where they are, addressing both academic and personal development needs.
Partnerships for Learning
Our on-site education programs are funded through an Education Program in an Institution (EPI) agreement between Nightwind Treatment Centre and Alberta Education, ensuring that students receive a fully accredited education. Learning is supported by in-person staff from Ignite Centre for E-Learning, who provide engaging, adaptable instruction that meets the needs of each student.
For youth transitioning to semi-independent living at Grandmother Turtle House, we partner with Outreach School in Westlock to provide flexible, student-centered education that supports their growing independence while ensuring academic continuity.
A Pathway to Academic Success
Small class sizes & individualized instruction ensure that every student receives the attention and support they need.
Success in School Plans are developed for each youth, helping to set clear academic and personal development goals.
Our structured yet flexible approach allows youth to re-engage with learning at their own pace, building confidence, skills, and a sense of accomplishment.
Supporting a Seamless Transition
To ensure a smooth transition into our educational programs, we request that each student’s Student Cumulative Record be forwarded directly from their previous school. This allows us to tailor their educational plan from day one, setting them up for immediate and long-term success.
At NWTC, education is more than academics—it’s about empowerment, confidence, and building a future with possibilities. Our goal is to ensure that every youth leaves our program not just with knowledge, but with the skills and resilience needed to thrive in school, work, and life.
Education at NWTC isn’t just a program—it’s a pathway to a brighter future.
